2016 is coming to an end and if you think that for the most part, 2016 has been atrocious or so it seems then you are partially correct. Things from terrorism, general mayhem to losing cultural icons like Muhammad Ali, Prince are a few to justify the fact that there’s been a lot of tragedy in the world lately. But it can’t be all bad, can it?
On the contrary, if you are wondering about the gloomy things and good stuff that happened in 2016 then let us tell you that there have been some triumphs great and small in our country and across the globe.
So, here’s a recap of some of the amazing news stories from this year so far.

1. The tiger population has increased.

Yes, the numbers of Tigers have risen from 3,200 to 3,890 in the world and World Wildlife Fund’s have announced a commitment to double the population by 2022.

2. A great year for Elon Musk and SpaceX.

The company managed to have successful landing boosters with reusable rockets and these landings seem to be very helpful in reducing space-travel costs.

2. Amazing progress in space.

After a five-year journey, NASA’s Juno spacecraft successfully entered Jupiter’s orbit on July 4. The main mission to launch spacecraft is to probe the origin of the solar system.

4. An amazing world record of planting trees.

On July 11, India planted 50 million trees and that too in one day, breaking the previous world record set by Pakistan in 2013.

5. Solar powered planes flew without a drop of fuel.

The first round-the-world flight by a solar-powered plane was completed in Abu Dhabi. It was a fossil-fuel-free journey started its journey in March 2015.

6. Amazing strides in ALS Research.

The most viral ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ supposedly paid off in a big way. They raised a lot of funds by the challenge. The gene responsible for ALS was found, well, a step closer to an effective treatment.

7. Pokemon Go got everyone walking outside.

This video game seems to be loved by everyone and especially parents as it helps children and adults in exploring the world. It allows people to socialise with more people and animals.

8. One step closer to curing cancer.

Chinese scientists are working on a gene-editing technique that could be used to treat humans suffering from lung cancer.

9. Goats love you as much as dogs do.

It is quite difficult not to appreciate goats. Goats are as loving and intelligent as dogs. So, now you might know their charm is not coincidental.

10. The foreign office got a new cat.

The foreign office got a new ‘diplocat’ known as Palmerston. He is a two-year-old black and white, bicolour cat who is even Chief Mouser of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) at Whitehall, London.
